Product Description

A close and careful study of a Moroccan Boujad rug from the A New Tribe back catalogue – and the painting that began the series.

Working in acrylic on cotton canvas, A New Tribe founder Ella Jones has captured the abstract, graphic quality of the Boujad weave in warm, earthy tones: the pattern alive with the same expressive energy as the rug itself. The result is a painting that rewards close looking – full of detail and warmth, yet with a quiet confidence that allows it to sit beautifully on a wall without demanding attention.

Part of the Rug Studies series, this piece reflects Ella’s long-held belief that Moroccan rugs are artworks in their own right – and her desire to explore that further through paint, studying the way light moves across the surface, how colours shift, and how the patterns and textures of these extraordinary handmade textiles translate to canvas.

Painted in acrylic on cotton canvas. Sympathetically framed in a warm Sapele wood frame. Signed on the reverse.

Framed Dimensions: 44.5cm(h) x 32cm(w) x 3.4cm(d)
